May is Stroke Awareness Month, and The Stroke Association is encouraging people in Lincolnshire to help raise money by 'walking to remember'.

The charity is launching their Walk to Remember campaign to help raise valuable funds for life-saving research in stroke prevention, diagnosis, treatment and long-term recovery to help those affected by deadly strokes and their families.

Taking part is easy, all you need to do is pick a place, create a route - of any length that suits you - and raise lifesaving funds.

A spokesman for the Stroke Association said: “A Walk to Remember is a really special way to celebrate the life of your loved one whilst raising lifesaving funds in their memory. Simply pick a special place that is filled with memories, create your route and on 27 June take part in your own walk to remember to raise funds for the Stroke Association.

“Tragically so many of us have lost someone because of stroke – whether that be a family member, friend or colleague.

"There are over 1.2 million stroke survivors living with the effects of stroke in the UK today and they need our help to rebuild their lives. You can do something amazing in your loved one’s memory by taking part in A Walk to Remember.

“A stroke can happen to anyone at any time and it turns lives upside down. However, with the support of the public we can help more stroke survivors and their families as they look to rebuild their lives."

Participants are asked to choose a place that has meaning to you or reminds you of your loved one. This might be somewhere your loved one visited frequently, a place that holds precious memories or maybe it was your loved one’s favourite spot.

Once you’ve chosen your special place to visit on your walk, the next step is to create a route around it. You might choose to start at your special place, visit it along your route or finish your walk there. How far you’ll walk is entirely up to you.
