Recognition at health awards

ORGANISATIONS and individuals from across the district got some well deserved recognition at an awards ceremony last weekend.

For the second consecutive year The Bassetlaw Sport and Physical Activity Partnership organised a Health and Physical Activity Recognition event, hosted by North Notts Community Arena.

This year 44 different nominations were received including nominations for individuals, teams of people and clubs/organisations.

Nominations were linked to The Bassetlaw Sport and Physical Activity Partnership’s ‘Action Plan’ and encouraged nominations from nine different categories: Walking Schemes, Cycling Schemes, The Activate Bassetlaw Project, Schools and Childrens Centre Projects, Mass Participation Events, Inclusive Schemes, Open Category, Food For Life Partnership Projects and The Work Place Health Scheme.

Over 250 people attended the event which raised the profile of the work being undertaken linked to health and physical activity across the whole of Bassetlaw.

The key theme throughout the evening was ‘Being Proud Of What Is On Offer In The Wonderful District Of Bassetlaw.’

The audience were also entertained by four performances from Outwood Academy Portland School Choir who opened the event, Retford Gymnastics Club who won an award last year and Retford Oaks Academy Cheer Squad who are the current Notts Pom Dance Champions for 2011 .

Tthe event was closed by David Graham’s Lion Dance performance.

Tony Wright from The Bassetlaw Sport and Physical Activity Partnership told the Guardian: “For the second year this award ceremony has highlighted the genuine good work that is being carried out across the whole of the district by a wide variety of organisations and individuals to encourage Bassetlaw residents of all ages to lead more healthy lifestyles and is something we should all be extremely proud of.”
