Celebrating the heritage skills that helped to build Boston

A series of events celebrating traditional skills and their preservation and heritage is to be held in Boston.

Boston Townscape Heritage Project has organised the Heritage Skills Festival for people to find out more about the historic buildings of the town centre.

Starting next Thursday, the festival will feature events including a walking tour of some of the town’s historic buildings, a look at the building materials used, and an event looking at ways of

retrofitting them to make them environmentally sustainable.

All the events will be physical ones, with social distancing in place and reduced numbers to allow for that.

Matt Bentley of the project said its principle aim wasto improve the character and appearance of Boston through shop front enhancement, but alongside that was engagement and activities in the historic environment.

“One of the ways we are doing that is to put on this festival which looks at some of the different aspects of the historic built environment.It will allow people to get an understanding of them, maybe further interest in them, and maybe develop new skills.”

He said it was hoped the festival would be an annual event going forward.

It was originally planned for April, but was postponed because of the pandemic.

That includes a talk on building materials of Boston, a buildings archaeologist, and general tours.

The final event is on Friday October 16.
