Historic wartime airfield museum near Metheringham to stay closed until next year

Despite the government announcing museums will be allowed to reopen under Covid-safe conditions from July 4, the committee running Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre at Martin Moor have announced it will remain closed for the rest of 2020.

With the health of visitors and volunteers in mind and the layout of the buildings and exhibits, the Trustees made the announcement via their Facebook page, instead using the interent to share information, news and activities.

They say: “The Trustees have decided, with great regret, that the Visitor Centre shall remain closed during 2020.

“We will use our website and social media platforms to publicise behind the scenes curatorial activities during the closure and to share our plans for re-opening in 2021. Also, we hope to be able to share some online activities for you to take part in from time to time.

“The Trustees thank you for your support and hope that you will continue to follow us via our website and social media channels.”

Whilst the centre remains closed, their online shop will still be open. Their web store includes a range of gifts, books and other items and they are adding more products all the time.

Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre is a volunteer run museum. It is dedicated to the memory of those who gave their lives in the Second World War, especially 106 Squadron and those who served at RAF Metheringham.
