Impressive response to annual award shows pride in Louth is growing
Pride in Louth is growing, if the response to an annual, prestigious award initiative is to be believed.
Louth Civic Trust, an independent charity that hails the town’s unique character and heritage, oversees the Pride Of Place award.
The accolade is given each year to groups, buildings or individuals considered to have helped preserve in special ways Louth’s appeal as a historic asset. And the 2026 edition has attracted no fewer than 17 nominations.
James Laverack, chair of the trust, said: "This is one of the longest lists of potential winners we have ever had. We are delighted at the growing pride being shown in the town.”

The winners will be announced at the trust’s annual general meeting, which is open to the public and being held at the estate agency and auction rooms of John Taylors at The Mart, Eastgate on Thursday, April 23, starting at 7.30 pm.
Another highlight of the meeting will be a talk on the famous Louth-born Victorian poet and composer of ballads, Claribel (1830-1869).
The talk will be given by singer and recitalist Kate Witney, who has appeared as a soloist in venues such as the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, the Adrian Boult Hall, Birmingham, and the cathedrals of Lincoln, Southwark and Versailles.
Also born in Louth, Kate, who will be accompanied by pianist Jane O’Farrell, has recently recorded an album of Claribel’s songs.
