Sleaford-area attraction prepares to re-open tea room

Heckington Windmill, the world’s only eight-sail windmill, plans to reopen its tea room on Saturday, July 18.

Initially, it will be open on Saturdays and Sundays only, but then on Fridays as well from July 24.

“We have worked hard to make sure we can provide a safe environment,” said Charles Pinchbeck, chairman of Heckington Windmill Trust.

The reopening will be taking advantage of the ‘wonderful’ Miller’s House garden, he explained, and also involve some socially-distanced seating in the house.

“We will be offering a simple menu – still great quality and almost all handmade in our very own bakehouse,” he added.

Through most of the lockdown, the windmill has been selling flour (the mill shop is open every Saturday and Sunday from 12-3pm).

In addition, the off-sales service of its award-winning 
8 Sail Brewery was maintained during this period, and last weekend the tap room bar reopened following an easing of Government restrictions.

Looking ahead, Mr Pinchbeck said: “We were delighted by the recent announcement that heritage sites can re-open and aim to have the mill open for safe visiting in the very near future.”
