Sleaford Museum - Sharing Our Stories

The Sleaford Standard’s Nostalgia page continues its association with Sleaford Museum Trust with another old photo from the museum archives.

Last week we featured an image entitled ‘May morning, 1907’, which the museum team knew no more about.

They had a number of responses and potential captions to the picure of crowds in Sleaford Market Place.

One suggested: “Toilet rolls in Sainsbury’s, hurry!”

Another said: “Is this the where we get the Skegness Bus?”

A further topical one put forward: “Now what was the Social Distance?”

And finally we had: “Is this the queue for the Sleaford Museum Trust AGM?”

In fact, museum trust chairman Mark Bamford said: “We now think that as May 7, 1907 was an ordinary Tuesday and that the likely date was May 1 - May Day. Any further thoughts are still most welcome.”

The second photo from the museum collection is called: ‘Southgate 1915’.

Taken during the First World War, it bears at least one similarity to Southgate today, as it is certainly rather quieter than normal at the moment.

We give readers another chance to devise a suitable caption for this photograph.

No prizes, just an opportunity to contribute a little humour in these difficult times.
