Town’s fire brigade on parade

Our picture this week, courtesy of Sleaford Museum’s archive, is of the late 19th century Sleaford Fire Brigade outside the old fire station in Watergate - a fine body of men in their smart uniforms.  

Museum chairman Mark Bamford said: “We don’t have a firm date for the image and rather hope that some readers could provide a little more information about the history of the town’s fire service. Any chance that a relative of your family may be in the photograph?”

There is also another chance to devise a suitable caption for this photograph, perhaps relating to the current situation? No prizes, just an opportunity to contribute a little humour in these difficult times...

Last week’s picture of Sleaford’s Southgate in 1915 produced only three humorous responses, the first two in a similar vein - ‘Quick, fetch that shovel; it’s good for the roses!’ and, ‘Should have brought my bucket and shovel; could have picked that up for the allotment!’ Also, ‘Lockdown: Sleaford Southgate’.
