The event was run over a 120-yard course – two lots of 60 with a pancake toss on the turn – with police holding up traffic. Taking part were: Mrs J. Whitehouse, of Algarkirk; June Holmes, of Wide Bargate; Mrs J. Scholes and Mrs A. Merk, of Monteith Crescent; Miss C. Roddis, of Harewood Close; Freda Taylor, of Meridian Road; June Hardwick, of Hospital Lane; Mrs Piggins, of Kings Crescent; Mrs Hudson, of Kings Avenue; Mrs P. Kimson, of Skirbeck Road; Mrs S. Tucker, of Haven Bank, and a Miss Briggs.

Four towns took part – Boston, Spalding, Grantham, and Ilkeston, in Derbyshire. Lincoln, Sleaford and Melton Mowbray had been expected to take part but were unable to raise a team.

Twelve women contestants, including one grandmother, took part in Boston’s event.
