NOSTALGIA: As Town Bridge gets ready for £320,000 facelift, here’s the scene in 1980
A 13-week project to repaint, repair, and protect Boston’s Town Bridge was announced last week.
The £320,000 scheme will get under way on June 1.
As chance would have it, the bridge was undergoing major works roughly the same time of year 40 years ago.
Town Bridge is Grade II listed, meaning it is considered to be of ‘special interest’.

Hide AdIt acquired its listed status in 1975 (on Valentine’s Day).
The bridge was built in the early 19th century and then re-built in 1913, although the stone bases of the earlier bridge remain.
Other bridges in Boston carrying Grade II listing are the Swing Bridge, the Grand Sluice, and the Hospital Footbridge between Willoughby Road and Horncastle Road.
