NOSTALGIA: ‘Monster from the deep’ salvaged from Boston Docks in 1981 (GALLERY)
A crowd gathered at Boston Docks in late November, 1981, as 100 tons of twisted metal – a toppled quayside crane – was hauled from 14ft of murky water.
These pictures of the salvage operation were taken by Standard photographer Gary Atkinson and appeared alongside the headline ‘monster of the deep’.

“Their men did a grand job in getting the cables threaded through the structure, considering visibility for the divers was about six inches,” he said. Photo: Midlands
