The 40ft-long tank, which was 6ft in diameter and weighed 16 tons, was being delivered to the dock timber yard of J. S. Towell Ltd, the importers.
It was to be used for the pressure impregnation of timber with preservative and fire retardant salts in a new plant coming into operation the following month.
