A national hotel and restaurant chain had set its sights on Skegness, The Standard revealed. East Lindsey District Council had confirmed it had been approached by a developer interested in bringing a national name to the resort's Pier Field. Portfolio holder for economic regeneration Coun Craig Leyland said: “The developer is not yetin a position to formally name the hotelier or restaurateur.” He said 'no decision [had] been made', saying any development would be subject to the full and proper planning process, with significant public consultation. "The council is excited to consider the proposal, which could create a significant number of all-year round jobs and raise the profile and appeal of Skegness as a resort," he added.
