The search engine firm had expanded its Street View service to include Skegness and the rest of the county, allowing internet users to view vast stretches of Lincolnshire from street-level.

It also meant that hundreds of townspeople could now be viewed online simply going about their daily business, after being snapped by Google as it compiled images for the service.

When Street View was launched for 25 cities in the UK in March 2009, dozens of images had to be removed following complaints from webusers.

These included a man leaving a central London sex shop, another being sick near Shoreditch High Street and one image showing a group of people being arrested.

A spokesman for Google said it had gone to great lengths to safeguard privacy, that Street View only contained images that were visible from public roads and used technology that blurred faces and car number plates.

It also allowed users the choice to remove themselves, their car or their house completely from Street View.
