Wheelchair sportsman Graham Birkett (pictured in the red top) coached youngsters in some of the individual skills required for a game of basketball - and then pupils put everything together for an all-action game.

The activity with dedicated sports wheelchairs was a first for the school and was put on with help from The Lincolnshire Sports Partnership.

Head of PE Charlotte Cameron said: “We wanted to give pupils something completely out of the curriculum.”

Miss Cameron said some pupils were apprehensive at the start because they thought it might appear insensitive to sit in wheelchairs when they had no need to use them, but, at the end of the activity, everyone was really positive about it.

More than 150 Year Eight pupils took part in the Healthy Schools day and other activities included information on sexual health, confidentiality, healthy eating and a topic on smoking, drugs and alcohol.
