Hoping for better luck with weather as Horncastle Christmas Market returns
The charming cobbled streets of Horncastle will be transformed into a bustling hive of festive activity when the town’s annual Christmas Market returns.
And the organisers are hoping for better luck with the weather than last year when the popular market had to be cancelled on the grounds of public safety because of high winds.
More than 120 stalls had been set to offer a range of Christmas goodies, but the Horncastle Festivals committee pulled the plug at the 11th hour after the winds had battered the town’s civic Christmas tree and blown down decorations.
"It was heartbreaking and we were all gutted, “ said Linda Patrick, a member of the organising committee. “The Market Place was not safe to be in, but we will be back, bigger and better, next year.”

That promise comes to fruition on Sunday, December 7, from 11 am to 4 pm, when the market takes place on Market Place and at Horncastle Community Centre.
The programme features more than 100 stalls where visitors can start their Christmas shopping, pick up a variety of local Lincolnshire gifts, enjoy artisan crafts and sample festive food and drink.
There will be live entertainment for the whole family, festive music, activities and the chance for children to visit Santa's grotto.
A spokesperson for the organisers said: “With its antiques and artisan shops, as well as galleries, award-winning coffee houses, restaurants and cosy traditional pubs, Horncastle is a delightful setting for a festive day out.

"This market promises to be a wonderful opportunity to soak in the holiday spirit while supporting local vendors and enjoying the community atmosphere.”
As the countdown to the event continues, volunteers are being sought by the organisers to act as marshals on the day.
A spokesperson said: “Marshals play a crucial role in ensuring the event is a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Tasks could include meeting and greeting visitors and participants, thanking them for their support, giving directions, answering queries and assisting traders with information.”

The whole weekend promises to be a festive occasion because on the preceding Friday (December 5), St Mary’s Church in Horncastle hosts a Christmas concert, with The Banovallum Singers. Admission is free, as are mince pies and a glass of wine.
