Punchlines derive their humour from being unexpected, punch indicating that the line should come as a surprise, which stimulates laughter.

Dave explores the methods that can be employed to achieve this, discusses naturally occurring punchlines and along the way challenges the major school of thought that a joke is never, ever as funny when you have been given the punchline beforehand.

To support his theory he will submit punchline evidence ranging from Bob? Who’s Bob?’ and have you got bunk beds?’ to nuns. nuns in baths, monkeys in baths and that lion walking into a pub.

The show is on Thursday, June 2 and tickets priced £17.50 each (booking fee may apply) are available now from the box office on 0844 8542776 or online at www.bathshall.co.uk
