The fantastic 149th Heckington Show is upon us - the perfect family day out

Heckington Show's capacity to combine the intimacy of a village show with the quality of a county event is a key part in the recipe of its success.

Big audiences (over 30,000) make it the biggest village agricultural show in the country providing showstopping performances from entrants and competitors, exhibitors and demonstrators.

The show takes place over two days - July 30-31, transforming the village fields with a huge selection of over 200 trade stands, a well stocked local food area, crafts, beauty treatments and antiques, supporting many local manufacturers and charities as well as exotic produce and creations.

The atmosphere is cranked up with exciting main ring attractions. The Backdraft wheelie-performing fire engine shares the stage with daring stunt riders, the Atkinson Action Horses, with horses used for the filming of BBC series Poldark.

Most Popular

Over 200 athletes will compete for the coveted 10 mile road race trophy on the Saturday, while there will be a full programme of top amateur grass track cycle racing. Sport continues on the Sunday with show jumping and tug of war.

The popular Heritage Zone promotes a number of local organisations – notably Heritage Lincolnshire featuring the findings of a community archaeology dig in the village. There are also national heritage groups such as the First World War First Aid Nursing Yeomanry and a working replica of a First World War tank.

You can admire horticultural creations and be entertained at the Concert Marquee.

The show still has a proud agricultural heritage, with a wide range of vintage farm machinery and fine array of livestock exhibits, including heavy horses, cattle, sheep, donkeys, poultry and rabbits. Heckington has become the largest show for Lincolnshire Longwool Sheep.

On the Saturday there is a dog show and the Countryside Area features country pursuits, including birds of prey and gun dogs.

The grand firework concert starts at 7pm on Saturday. Bring a picnic and enjoy the family atmosphere in the main ring to the sounds of Swede Dreamz (Abba Tribute), Sleaford Concert Band and Daz Carter.
