Full of flavour at new tasty Italian

Forget travelling to Rome or Florence for tasty Italian food.

Some of the best pasta dishes I’ve ever tasted are served up a little closer to home in Barnby Moor.

Lipizzano’s has recently opened, and despite not being clearly visible from the road, its food is not to be missed.

The restaurant is nestled behind the White Horse pub and I drove past it at first.

At first it feels like you are walking into someone’s home, stepping into the restaurant through a conservatory door.

My partner and I were soon greeted by a friendly smile from the waitress who led us to our seats in the bright and airy conservatory.

Their decor had an Italian feel, but with a bit of a twist.

The placemats were old LP records and the counter in the entrance was made up of currency from around the world.

I was a little sceptical at first because we were the only customers, but after being given the menu I couldn’t wait to order and discover if the dishes were as tasty as they sounded.

The starters sounded delicious and included an antipasti sharing starter and garlic bread.

After ordering two cokes, we decided to skip the starters and head straight for the main course.

There was a variety of mains to choose from including pizzas, fish stew, braised lamb shank, sea bass, orechiette pasta and chicken.

I opted for the tiger prawns with spaghetti while my partner ordered the meatballs.

And we weren’t disappointed when our main courses arrived.

I was greeted with a dish full of spaghetti, with a generous helping of tiger prawns all covered in a light and subtle sauce made up of chilli, garlic and herbs.

My partner also had a huge bowl full of spaghetti - which arrived covered in a tomato and red wine pasta and three generous sized home-made meatballs.

Despite us both finishing all of our dishes which wouldn’t have looked out of place being served in a Rome cafe, we decided that the desserts sounded too good to pass up.

We shared a serving of the chocolate and almond brownie with clotted cream icecream and my waistline is glad that we did.

The slice of brownie was huge and as it crumbled it revealed almonds and chocolate and caramel pieces inside. The clotted cream icecream was the perfect accompaniment.

I’ve been to a fair few Italian restaurants in my time, but I can honestly say Lipizzano’s is one of the very best I’ve ever eaten in.

You will get a freshly cooked meals bursting with flavour, served in a friendly and relaxing atmosphere.
