Plans submitted for 64 new affordable homes on Sleaford development site

Plans for 64 new affordable homes on the Handley Chase site on London Road have been submitted to North Kesteven District Council.

The application forms part of the ongoing Handley Chase development, which was approved in July 2015. The wider scheme involves creating a Sustainable Urban Extension (SUE) to Sleaford including 1,450 houses, a new school and commercial space.

The SUE site extends to around 60 hectares and occupies a broadly triangular plot of land on the southern edge of Sleaford.

Affordable housing provider Longhurst Group is working with construction partners Lindum Group to seek permission to build the 64 affordable homes on a parcel of land located in the northern most corner of the wider site.

Thirty of the new Longhurst homes would be offered for sale on a shared ownership basis while 34 would be available for affordable rent. It would include a mix of two, three and four-bedroom properties.

In addition, two public open spaces with new trees would be created as well as a new pedestrian link through to Rosewood Drive.

Marcus Keys, Executive Director of Growth and Development at Longhurst, said: “There is a clear need for more affordable housing in Sleaford and the wider area and so we’re delighted to see plans submitted for this development, which, if approved, would further increase our provision in the district.

“This scheme, which is 100 percent affordable, underlines our absolute commitment to providing the homes that are needed, where they are needed most.”

Lindum development manager Mitul Shah said: “This scheme will be 100 percent affordable, which clearly supports national and local planning targets to deliver much-needed housing.

“The homes are designed to a high standard which will complement the overall design of the wider SUE.

“There are currently a high number of people on the North Kesteven District Council waiting list requiring accommodation within the Sleaford area. These are people already residing in the town, or who have a local connection with the area. If approved, it will make a significant contribution to affordable housing in Sleaford and the wider District.”
