Plans submitted to build 335 homes in Louth

Plans have been submitted to build 335 homes on farmland in Louth.

Applicants Lindum Group Ltd and A & W Laughton have applied to East Lindsey District Council to replace existing agricultural buildings on land at Southfield Farm in Legbourne Road.

Under the proposal, the existing farm buildings will be demolished. The site is currently used as a mixture of arable and grazing land and is home to Laughtons of Louth cattle rearing operation.

The plan also includes the development of open space, landscaping and a drainage system. The means of access to the site is still being considered.

A statement on behalf of the applicants said: “The proposal will provide a sustainable, inclusive and mixed community including the provision of affordable homes, at a time of significant need and a shortfall in supply both locally and nationally.

“When considered in line with the economic dimension, this development will also meet the social role by contributing to the provision of housing and affordable housing, together with a comprehensive planning obligation.”

The applicants went on to say that the proposal has been “sensitively developed” to ensure that it doesn’t cause “unacceptable harm” to local amenities and is capable of fitting in with the surrounding area.

The applicants added that they have met with officers at the district council and said that this has helped to “inform the final proposed scheme”.

East Lindsey District Council will consider the application and make a formal decision at a later date.
