Plans to convert former pumping station into home approved

Plans to convert a former pumping station between Market Rasen and Louth into a house have been approved.

Applicant Paul Davey applied to East Lindsey District Council for the change of use of the existing pumping station into a home on land west of Chestnut Farm House, Ludford Road, Binbrook.

Members of East Lindsey District Council’s planning committee approved the plans, subject to conditions, at a meeting on Thursday, November 6.

But Coun Robert Watson (Green), who represents the Sutton on Sea ward, raised concerns about the right to access the land.

He said: “The primary issue here is the access. Is it possible that an alternative access route to the development could be used?

“There’s clearly discontent from the occupier of Chestnut Farm who claims there’s no right of way. How are they going to access this house without causing discontent?”

Graeme Hyde, senior planning officer at the district council, said: “There is a right to access to the land through the pumping station so the applicant does have access.

“There’s an understanding between the owner of the property and the applicant in terms of the right of way.

“It’s up to them how they access the land and that they may have to manage that differently but that’s up to them to manage.”

The planning documents show that there have been 11 neighbourhood objections to the plans, with many people raising concerns that the proposed property will be visually intrusive to the character of the area.

But Coun Dick Edginton (Conservative), who represents the Skegness Scarbrough and Seacroft ward, said he backed the plans.

He added: “I support the proposal. If you look at the number of conditions on this application, they should address all of the issues.”
