For years Gordon and Wendy Holmes have illuminated their home on Wainfleet Road, Irby-in-the-Marsh, with festive characters - and this year the whole street has got involved.

Last year their efforts raised £680 for the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance but the new display almost didn't happen due to Covid-19.

"My husband suffers from a breathing condition and hasn't been going out much at all so we'd decided not to do the display this year.

"But we kept getting calls from two volunteers who helped us last year so in the end we thought 'let's do it' and cheer everyone up.

"We are pleased we did, especially as my husband isn't going out at the moment and he loves the light so much."

Wendy, 73, and Gordon, 74, usually start on the displays in October but have no idea how many lights are in the displays.

"We've built them up over the years," said Wendy. "Gordon didn't have much of a Christmas until he met me and now he's as mad on it as I am.

"We love making people smile and it's especially important this year. People have already said how much they enjoy the lights and we get regulars each year.

"Hopefully, we'll raise some money for the Air Ambulance, too - you never know when you might need it."
