Hundreds impressed by Carols For All show

OVER 400 performers joined a taltened collective of local musicians to dazzle Gainsborough with a top Christmas concert.

Gainsborough Choral Society’s annual Carols for All Concert returned to All Saints Church on Saturday 10th December with a little help from hundreds of gifted folk, both young and old, from around the town.

Richard Green conducted the Society, and as well as stunning performances from themselves, they welcomed Lincoln Pro Musica Orchestra to join them as well as musicians from Queen Elizabeth’s High School.

School choirs also joined the Choral Society, adding an extra dimension to the concert by performing a short set of carols on their own, conducted by Charlotte Turner and accompanied by Simon Corner.

Further seasonal music is provided by QEHS Swing Band, conducted by Janice Stockdale.

And of course, it just wouldn’t be Christmas without a little bit of audience participation - who were treated to festive favourites such as Let It Snow, Joy To The World, The Twelve Days of Christmas and Jingle Bell Rock.

“It was an absolutely fantastic evening,” said Carolyn Walton from the Gainsborough Choral Society.

“We had about 400 performers altogether so the atmosphere was very nice and jolly.”

She continued: “Thank goodness the weather was good to us and so many people came along - last year the terrible snow really ruined it for us and it was great to come back with a bang.”

“This concert happens every year and so many people know about it, so it usually sells out and this year the church was absolutely packed.”

Carolyn said that all involved in the concert put in a tremendous performance.

“The children did some beautiful songs,” she said. “Maybe the rest of us should all retire now because they were so marvellous!”

“We had a long rehearsal in the afternoon before because we always like to get it right and I’d like to think that we did.”

She added: “The audience loved it and seemed very pleased and together, we got everyone in the mood for Christmas.”

“Now the Choral Society are starting rehearsals in January for our next show in March - so now we have some new music to learn.”
