Baby chickens, cuddly snowmen and Santa’s were displayed over Christmas at All Wrapped Up in Market Street - with a staggering £600 sent to the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance following their most recent efforts.

One of the members, Maurice Bird, explained: “For those who are not familiar with this very active business, it can be described as an establishment concerned with selling furniture, household goods and a very active dining section.

“In fact, half of the place is reserved for the many customers who visit the place for teas and coffees, or to enjoy meals varying from breakfasts to full blown lunches.

“The meals are cooked in full view of the diners and cover a full range with a large menu.

“There are, however, mysterious goings on, especially around the large table!

“Here the talk will be of which charity to support next.

“Once decided, knitted objects will begin to appear on a regular basis.

“These objects and many more will be sold with all proceeds going to the given charity.”

That is not all. AWU attracts dozens of very generous customers and visitors who donate things for the competitions that run alongside sale of the knitted

products.

Among the other charities to benefit are local Salvation Army, who received a cheque for over £300.

“When the ‘large tablers’ heard that a bus had to be hired to take residents of Eresby Hall Care home, AWU came to the rescue. Poppies and military men were knitted for the Spilsby Welfare branch, Royal British Legion in November and over £220 was donated,” said Mauruce.

“The largest and most successful fund raising has just been completed. The ‘knitters’ set about their task knitting Santa’s, Snowmen Christmas puddings

and other items, all for sale.

“Over 60 raffle prizes were donated and a numbers board competition helped to swell the coffers, with £600 has just been sent to the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.”
