Dr David Mortimore is on the brink of the biggest success of his career when he learns that a liaison with a nurse at the hospital 19 years ago has resulted in a son he knew nothing about – until now.

And the teenager is at the hospital, eager to meet his dad.

Dr Mortimore’s solution, in order to hide the facts from both his wife and the hospital authorities, involves the invention of two non-existent husbands for the boy’s mother and a number of further consequent tall stories.
