Local talent in classical show

SOME of the most talented musical talent from across the region is coming together to put on a first-class evening of entertainment this weekend.

Mezzo-soprano singer Kamilla Dunstan from Scrooby near Bawtry and violinist Edmund Taylor from Worksop are set to lead a classical music concert at All Saints Church, Gainsborough featuring youngsters from Beckingham and Retford.

Kamilla is in her final year at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London while Edmund is in his first year at the Trinity College of Music. Joining them will be Freya Yeo from Beckingham, near Gainsborough along with Thomas Boulby from Retford, Megan McKey from Mattersey near Worksop and more.

“It’s to help the church with donations and also to get more people in and promote young talent in the area,” said Kamilla, 22.

“Classical music does get a name for itself and if it’s not on TV then people don’t really seem to be interested.”

She continued: “There aren’t many opportunities for concerts because they cost so much to put on, but we’ve had quite a lot of success with our previous concerts.”

Kamilla added: “The concert will be a mixture of classical music, musical theatre and a few pop songs so it’ll be a great evening to be exposed to some wonderful music and the church is great for acoustics and it’s in a really beautiful and stunning setting to perform in.”
