Mercury Music Prize nominee heads to Lincoln

MERCURY Music Prize nominee Richard Hawley is heading to the county to perform a special show in Lincoln.

From the mellow crooner-isms of 2001’s Late Night Final to the soaring majesty of Coles Corner and the psychedelic rock-fest that is the latest offering and Mercury-nominated Standing at the Sky’s Edge - the Yorkshire-born Hawley is set to perform favourites from across his career.

Speaking to Standard reporter Andrew Trendell, the former Pulp and Longpigs man said that the album was very politically-driven. So how does Hawley feel about ‘Broken Britain’?

“It’s just a glib little phrase that some idiot has come up with,” he said. “David Cameron is seriously unfit to lead us. Thatcher was a ‘wannabe Toff’, these are the real deal. How can they possibly understand what it’s like to be a single mother from Rotherham trying to raise three kids on benefits?”

“It’s beyond their understanding and they just can’t get it.”

Richard Hawley will be performing at The Engine Shed in Lincoln on Sunday 30th September. Tickets are £20 and are available by visiting www.engineshed.co.uk or you can call 0844 888 8766.
