Oddsocks go back to 1950s

Oddsocks’ new show The Merry Wives of Windsor will be at Thoresby Riding Hall Theatre from Wednesday 30th November until Saturday 3rd December.

It is inspired by the teenage revolution of the 50s and the soho coffee bars, which saw the birth of rock and roll.

But, as Merry Wives is Shakespeare’s most frothiest of comedies, and is essentially the first sitcom, it will be set in a TV studio.

The audience are invited to imagine they are watching a live recording of a comedy show and are expected to join in accordingly, say organisers.

Oddsocks fans know to expect surprises in the productions - and Merry Wives is no exception.

Actors Avita Jay and Taresh Solanki will be bringing some Bollywood glamour to proceedings and will give the show a Kumars from number 42 meets East in East feel.

Taresh has been acting ever since he accidentally walked onto the shoot of a television set whilst working in Mumbai and given the role of a hit man in a Hindi version of Day of the Jackal.

Whereas Avita has been sussing out Windsor in her role of a snooty air hostess in a Bollywood film based at Heathrow.

The company has 20 years experience delighting audiences with their inspired approach to Shakespeare’s plays and their trademark family friendly, madcap, slapstick style.

The show is directed by Andy Barrow with set design by Andy Barrow and Kee Ramsorrun.

Performances start at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £15, concessions £13.50 and children £9.

They can be bought from Thoresby Box Office 01623 822009.
