The WW1 weekend took place at the award-winning heritage railway – Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway (LCLR) – located at Skegness Water Leisure park in Ingoldmells.
The event featured the Hull Rifles Re-enactment group, a war-time encampment, Skegness Royal British Legion and vintage train carriages.
Visitors were able to watch firing demonstrations, gets hands-on with various deactivated weapons and medical equipment from the era, and take a ride on waggons formed from railway vehicles built for the battlefields.
Chairman of the LCLR’s Historic Vehicles Trust, Richard Shepherd, said: “It was a great weekend, with a fantastic turn-out, despite the weather. We had about 60% more people than last year over the weekend.
"The Hull Rifles group were absolutely brilliant. Those lads really looked and acted the part.
“We alternated between passenger train and our military train across the two days. The Hull Rifles lads travelled on the waggon which still bears shrapnel holes in its framework from being too close to the German artillery. Visitors got to ride in our ambulance waggon – which is the only one left in the world in a good condition.
"We also had a fantastic medical stall set up with some very gruesome-looking instruments which people were able to handle.”
Sadly the wet and windy weather meant the planned visit from the Tiger Moth biplanes had to be cancelled.
Richard added: “Our railway is based around historic rolling stock from the First World War and this event pays tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those brave people who fought under conditions of unimaginable horror”.
