Plan B to perform outdoors

Top singer-songwriter Plan B will play a major outdoor gig at Sherwood Pines Forest Park next summer.

The artist, real name is Ben Drew, will follow in the footsteps of musicians Paul Weller, Jarvis Cocker, The Beautiful South and Erasure, who have all played at the 3,000 acre site near Clipstone.

Multi-talented Plan B came to prominence with the 2006 release of the critically acclaimed hip hop album Who Needs Actions When You Got Words.

His next project, the soul-influenced The Defamation of Strickland Banks, is a journey of a man who finds success hard to handle and then hits rock bottom.

Released in 2010, the album went on to become the fifth biggest seller of the year and continued a chart presence through 2011. Featuring crafted hit singles like Stay Too Long, Prayin’ and The Recluse, awards have abounded for artist and album alike including Brit Award for Best British Male. Commenting on his forthcoming forest dates Plan B said: “It’s going to be a real adventure taking the Plan B show into the woods. I’m really up for this and hope to see you there.”

Capacity for the gig on Saturday 16th June 2012 will be set at 5,000 people. Tickets went on sale on Friday 9th December.

Tickets £32 (subject to booking fee) and can be bought from the commission’s box office on 03000 680400 or online at www.forestry.gov.uk/music.

Chris Bray, concert organiser for the Forestry Commission, said: “We are committed to bringing new acts to play in Sherwood and reaching out to different audiences. We have had huge demand for concert tickets over recent years and we are confident Plan B will be another top seller.”
