The council has added that all car parks will offer the option to pay by phone and app, using the cashless 'MiPermit' software.

As reported previously, not everyone is pleased with the proposed reintroduction of car parking charges - particularly in light of the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions, and the impact that the decision to reintroduce the charges could have on the local businesses that may have been hoping for extra footfall in the weeks ahead.

This afternoon, an ELDC spokeman defended the council's position and said: “Any services previously interrupted are being returned to normal over the coming weeks.

"Car Parks charges have two roles: 1) they ensure a turnover in car parks to allow people to access local shops, and 2) they help maintain car parks themselves and the associated services.

"Car parking has been free in East Lindsey since April, and the fees in East Lindsey are some of the lowest in the East Midlands.”
