Her passion for musical theatre shone through each and every one of the 20-plus numbers in Tell Me On A Sunday.

High expectations of finding the one, heartbreak when it all goes wrong, fury at betrayal and letters home to Mum contributed to a riveting performance in Chesterfield last night.

Nearly 600 people packed the Winding Wheel to listen to the golden voice of the girl whose career has gone from strength to strength since winning TV reality show I’d Do Anything.

Memorable numbers such as Take That Look Off Your Face, Sheldon Bloom, Capped Teeth and Caesar Salad and Ready Made Life took the audience on a rollercoaster ride through the romances of an English girl in New York.

Jodie poured her heart and soul into the emotionally-charged odyssey which was played out against a backdrop of scaled-down skyscrapers, the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan bridge and even fitted in a handful of costume changes along the way.

She likened the role to “a mini-marathon”, telling the audience that she felt like she’d done four musicals in one.

But there was more to come in the second half. She revisited Secret Love from Calamity Jane which was a show that she had toured in for 14 months, then sang Another Suitcase, Another Hall with her understudy Jodie Beth Meyer.

The star of the show put the icing on the cake for audience member Chris Illsley by leading a mass singalong of Happy Birthday.

Jodie then brought the show full circle with a performance of Unexpected Song, composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Don Black who wrote Tell Me On A Sunday.

* You can catch this touring show at Buxton Opera House on April 3 and Nottingham Royal Concert Hall on April 20.
