Romeo and Juliet screened live from London at Trinity Arts in Gainsborough

The Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company's production of Romeo and Juliet is being screened at Trinity Arts Centre in Gainsborough next week

One of Shakespeare’s most popular, famous and talked-about plays, Romeo and Juliet remains as captivating now as it was when the Bard wrote it over 350 years ago.

A long-standing feud between Verona’s Montague and Capulet families brings about devastating consequences for two young lovers caught in the conflict.

Tragic, inspiring, beautiful and heart-warming in many ways Rome and Juliet has become iconic in it’s own right and even more so through what the story has influenced.

As well as being filmed and performed many times in its own right as a play, ballet and opera, it’s story is the inspiration for such famous pieces as the musical West Side Story,

For this latest adaptation, Branagh and his creative team present a modern passionate version of the classic tragedy.

Reuniting the stars of his celebrated film of Cinderella, Kenneth Branagh directs Richard Madden and Lily James as Romeo and Juliet and Sir Derek Jacobi as Mercutio.

This latest screening, live from London, is on Thursday, July 7 at 7.15pm.
