Tom Kreffer has published his journal to his unborn child, Dear Dory, as a humerous and truthful account of the months leading up to the birth of his son Arlo nearly a year ago.

It was a miracle that was never meant to happen and Tom writes in his no holds barred style that he wasn't wasn’t expecting fatherhood to land on his doorstop, "not when doctors had told me it was all but impossible for my partner to fall pregnant without medical intervention (IVF).

"I was now standing in the middle of an uncharted landscape, one I found daunting and disorientating. And so I turned to writing to help me plot a course – a pen and paper lighting the way forward (actually, I mainly used my laptop) as I inched towards first-time fatherhood."

He describes the day his wife, wearing Frosties PJ's with Tony the Tiger smiling back, woke up to take the test that would change their lives forever.

"It’s rare for me to exhibit such an outward display of emotion, but I’m crying. Having said that, I cried when Stallone reprised Rocky in Creed," he writes.

Other soon to be dads should not expect a reference book.

"It’s not just a book about pregnancy from a Dad’s perspective, but it’s told through the eyes of a Dad as he’s discovering it in the present tense – this isn’t a guide book or a reference book, but writing to your unborn child each day can be a great parent preparation technique – so much as you can prepare for parenthood, Tom explained.

Tom is now looking forward to more adventures as a dad, and already has ideas for his next book.

"I'm actually just finishing up the first draft of book two while trying to promote Dear Dory." he said.

"But after lockdown I'll definitely look forward to taking my family on a trip to Skegness.
