Sister Act comes to Skegness stage

Hit 90s comedy Sister Act provides the inspiration for the latest show from the Skegness Musical Theatre Company.

The show opened at Skegness’ Embassy Theatre, in Grand Parade, last night.

Staged in association with Josef Weinberger Ltd, it features original music by eight-time Oscar-winner Alan Menken.

Sister Act tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a Reno lounge singer memorably played by Whoopi Goldberg in the popular 1992 movie of the same name.

Deloris’ life takes an unexpected turn when she witnesses a crime and the police hide her in the last place they think anyone would think to look - a convent.

Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, originally played by Dame Maggie Smith, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

The film was a box office smash, grossing more than 230 million dollars worldwide.

The musical adaptation would follow in 2006 and also prove a hit with audiences.

Sister Act continues tonight (Friday), and Saturday, at 7.30pm on each day.

Admission is priced at £15 or £12 for children or £50 for a family ticket.

To book, call the box office on 01507 613100 or visit the Embassy’s website at www.embassytheatre.co.uk
