RC car club on a drive to find new young racers

The club stated in 1995, and has been based at many locations in the town over the years.

Currently members use the Louth tennis centre their home on Scarborough Road and Chris Lovely from the club explained they currently race cars in many various different sizes and forms, seeing numbers in attendance vary from 20-50 at club evenings and full race days.

But currently they would like to attract more young members to come race. He said: “We race three times on Saturday evenings in a typical month from 5pm-10pm and race all day on a Sunday 8-4pm.” To join in for a Saturday race evening costs £8-£10 depending on whether you are a club member or visitor. They also currently have a rental car, which can be hired out for an evening or all day racing, with a couple more on the way thanks to a grant. Chris said: “Getting involved is easy, check us out on Facebook where we have an up to date calendar and a place where racers can share hints and tips to help one another. Coming to view is free, and everyone is open, welcoming and willing to anyone.” Current racers age from five years old to over 70. Chris added: “It’s brilliant for younger racers to get them away from their tablets and gaming consoles and getting them out there meeting like-minded people.

"It builds up friendship and bonds, with many parents and child partnerships. It’s perfect for mental health, and cognitive skills.”

He said it help people focus on a project building and maintaining a car – as well as the racing. It also ties in well with STEM educational subjects and can be a pathway for youngsters into engineering or motorsport careers. Chris pointed out: “Many in the RC industry work for Formula 1 teams, and everyone knows the story of Lewis Hamilton and Blue Peter! “Out of this you meet like minded people, build up friendships that last a life time, have laughs and enjoyment. All while having a competitive atmosphere.”
