The Smiths’ play to return

FANS of legendary indie icons The Smiths are in for a treat as a critically-acclaimed play based on the band’s music returns to the stage in Lincoln.

The play wowed fans and critics alike when it was performed at Lincoln’s Drill Hall last year, before going on to meet further success at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Half A Person - My Life As Told By The Smiths is the story of William - a 20-something Londoner who drifts from coffee shop to bar, falling in love, self-obsessing and finding solace in The Smiths.

Torn between conflicting loyalties to the girl of his dreams and his best friend, William has the chance to become more than half a person.

This emotionally charged, coming-of-age story was a hit at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2012 and blends wry comedy with the music of a beloved cult band, sung live.

On a journey that explores the ideas of love, loss and friendship, Half A Person is a play to laugh, cry and sing along to.

Standard reporter Andrew Trendell said of the play: “The Smiths’ music lends itself well to ideas of alienation, so it’s only fitting that this is a one-man show, and if ever there was an actor to fill the stage it’s Joe Murray - a young talent whose performance proves utterly engaging from start to finish.”

He added: “Rather than mimic Morrissey, Murray pays tribute by effectively using the music to pin-point landmarks in the emotional journey of a young man.”
