There’s no business like Show-business

IT’S SHOWTIME! Members of Wales Musical Theatre Company are preparing to perform another night of jaw-dropping, hand-clapping, toe-tapping hits from the most inspiring musicals to grace the stage.

Now in its fourth year, the cast of Showstoppers hope they will be able to grow on previous successes performed in front of packed out audiences at Worksop’s Acorn Theatre.

They’ve already spent weeks preparing to ensure they’re in the best shape possible to hit the high notes and deliver all the twists and turns on the night.

Now they’re urging all visitors to dust off their dancing shoes and warm up their vocal chords and join in with all the fun from their seats.

The list of awe inspiring hits from popular West End and Broadway musicals include songs from Wicked, Cabaret, Footloose, Hairspray and even well known tunes from the films Jungle Book and Blues Brothers.

There is certainly something for everyone!

Last year the cast, from Wales and Kiveton Park, received rave reviews from Les Smith of the National and Dramatic Association: “From start to finish the enthusiasm came over the footlights from the members who were having a ball enjoying themselves throughout the entire show.”

Director Nick Challenger certainly hopes for more of the same.

“Nick and the cast couldn’t produce such a high quality show without the help of the musical director David Burgess and choreographer Victoria Taylor who return to their roles for a third year,” said Joseph Bairstow from Wales Musical Theatre Company.

With just weeks before the opening night - and rehearsals in full swing - the cast are pushing themselves to raise the bar once more.

“Rehearsals have been tiring so far, there’s a lot to get through, but we will be more than prepared come show time.”

“I can’t wait,” added Joseph.

But before the opening night on Thursday 20th September, the theatre company is doing all it can to raise more much-needed funds for the show.

In order to do this, members of the society are taking part in a four hour sponsored dance-a-thon this weekend.

It will take place at Wales Methodist Chapel, on School Road, on Saturday 11th August.

The dancing and shaking will begin at 12pm and spectators are more than welcome, said Joseph.

Refreshments will also be served.

The fourth production of Showstoppers (2012) comes to the Acorn Theatre on Queen Street in Worksop on the evenings of 20th and 21st September with both matinee and evening performances on 22nd September.

Tickets are on sale now. For prices and performance times call Jayne Lemm on (01909) 809757.
