Tripping the light fantastic at Lyric

TRACY Davis knows a thing or two about putting on a show.

In 16 years as a club and pubs singer she entertained audiences both here and abroad.

Now she is using that knowledge to bring some top talent to her home town of Dinnington. Tracy Davis Presents will launch in December with an Abba tribute and hog roast dinner night – which sold out within three weeks of tickets going on sale.

Tracy, 39, of Sunningdale Road, said: “I had no idea how well the tickets would sell but it just shows there is a demand out there for this kind of entertainment in Dinnington.”

“We want to bring something to the community. All our events will be at the Lyric Theatre which is a beautiful venue and is ideal for this kind of thing.”

People seem keen to have something in Dinnington and not to have to always travel further afield for a night out. ”

Tracy has set up the events business with her friend Siobhan Morley, who also sings.

Siobhan, 44, of Rackford Road, sings alto to soprano and has been in operatic societies and choirs.

She said: “My dad was part of a singing duo called Mick and Mick and I’ve always sung.”

She is looking after the admin side of the business and also designed the website, while Tracy has been using her contacts to book acts and sell tickets.

She said: “We’re planning on doing one event every quarter at the moment.”

“The Christmas one on 2nd December will feature Abba Supreme, then on 31st March next year we’ve got Beggars Belief, which is ceilidh type music and we’ll be having line dancing as well.”

“At each event we’re going to advertise the next one we’re doing.”

On 30th June it will be a cabaret night with Gaz and Ellie and on 22nd September they will be doing Stars in Their Eyes.

Tracy has even got an act already booked for Christmas 2012.

She said: “We’re going to do two in December next year. On 8th December it will be Dirty Dancing night with all the music from the film and people performing it, and we’ll also be arranging something for 1st December but we haven’t booked anything yet.”

“Hopefully by next year we will have become well known and be successful enough so we will be able to sell tickets for both.”

Both Tracy and Siobhan went to Dinnington Comp and met at St Joseph’s toddler group with their children.

A charity event they put on in 2009 raised nearly £4,000 in one night for Sheffield Children’s Hospital and the Air Ambulance.

Once their Tracy Davis Presents events are established they will be donating the money from the raffle and bingo to local charities.

Tracy began her singing career at the age of 16 and became well-known under her maiden name of McKay.

She used to travel to clubs, pubs and nightclubs with her mum June McKay and even auditioned for Stars in Their Eyes as Tiffany.

She has been on the same bill as The Searchers, Dave Berry and Bernard Manning.

Tracy sang all the hits of the day and it was only after her son JJ was born that she decided to retire.

She said: “I loved doing the clubs and had some great years but I didn’t want to be setting off on a Saturday afternoon to get to Blackpool or somewhere to appear that night and then not get home again until early Sunday morning.”

“People ask me now why I don’t do something with my talent, but I did do something with it and feel I achieved something.”

“I will be doing a spot at each event, so I have the best of both worlds now. I’ll also be singing with Siobhan and we’ll be having a surprise guest singer at every event as well.”

“I’ve been getting some of my little dresses out again and having some new ones made by Sharon Gingell from Sew Gorgeous in Dinnington.”

JJ is now seven and his sister Rebecca is four. Siobhan has three sons Brendan, 12, Jason, 10, and Blake, eight.

Being able to do the school run is important to both mums, which is why they are enjoying working for themselves.

“Siobhan is very good at all the admin side of it and keeping an eye on the budget while I’m good at talking and selling,” laughed Tracy.

“I like organising events and we will be putting chocolates on every table and there will be lots of balloons because I love balloons.”

Tickets for the Abba Supreme night are £20 and, although it has sold out, Tracy said people can still be included on a reserve list.

They also want to hear from local people about the kind of nights they want at the Lyric.
