Want a way to de-stress? Try out basket making

It’s time to flex your fingers as the timeless craft of basket making is to be revived in Sherwood Pines Forest Park, near Clipstone.

The Forestry Commission is holding a day-long workshop on 5th May showing how to weave a willow basket.

Jon Ridgeon, 23, is a professional basketry and bushcraft instructor and will pass on the secrets of this age-old skill to beginners.

He explained: “Baskets have been made in much the same way for thousands of years and although it can seem a bit fiddly to the untrained eye, it’s a skill anyone can master.

“It is also incredibly calming. Working with a natural material is the perfect antidote to stress.”

The course will take place deep in the woods around a campfire. The workshop runs from 10am to 5pm and costs £45, including all materials. Not suitable for children. Places are limited and booking is essential on 01623 821459.
