15 YEARS AGO: Asda opens new £20m supermarket in Boston

The shop was officially opened by Olympic swimmer Melanie Marshall.

Hundreds of people queued up to be among the first to visit the store, and once inside, they were greeted by mascots and entertainers on stilts.

The supermarket was nearly twice the size as the old Asda, in Horncastle Road.

More than 7,600 customers poured through the doors on the store’s first day.
