350 Clinton Cards stores to close

Zolfo Cooper, administrator to Clintons, said that it would close 350 of the chain’s 784 UK stores.

The entire Birthdays chain will close, in a move that will see the brand leave the high street, as well as about 200 Clinton Cards stores, which together employ about 2,800 full and part-time staff.

Zolfo Cooper said that it made the decision after it had ‘become clear that the business is burdened with an untenable retail estate”.

The closures will begin next week, and continue into June - full announcements on which stores will be affected are expected to be made by Monday.
