64 car thefts in one week

ALMOST ten car crimes took place every day across the county during a week long campaign to raise awareness about the importance of keeping your motor safe.

A total of 64 thefts from vehicles were tweeted by Notts Police, as part of its three-month car crime campaign.

The crimes were shared on Twitter and Facebook during Tweet Week. Car crime facts and crime prevention advice was also posted each day.

Force-lead for car crime Superintendent Mike Manley said: “While this may seem like a high number thefts in such a short period of time, we are actually seeing a 14 per cent reduction in this type of crime compared to last year.”

“We hope this is an indication that our campaign is working in that offenders are deterred and motorists are being more diligent when it comes to the security of their property.”

An online chat was also staged so that motorists could share their experiences.

They wanted to know where the hotspots were, what measures they could take to reduce the chance of being targeted and what kind of people are committing these crimes, a Notts Police spokesman said.
