96 not out for cricket club walkers

On Easter Sunday the adult members walked an impressive 95 laps of the cricket ground - the equivalent of walking from Clowne to the County Ground in Derby.

The juniors tackled the shorter trip from Clowne to Chesterfield, clocking up 35 laps.

“We are affiliated with the Derbyshire Cricket Board,” said walk organiser, first team captain and junior section co-ordinator, Adam White.

“So we thought it would be a good idea to link this theme in by the junior players attempting to walk the distance from Clowne to Derbyshire’s second ground at Queens Park in Chesterfield and the senior players attempting to walk the distance from Clowne to Derbyshire’s main ground in Derby.”

As well as the walk there was also an Easter egg hunt to keep people entertained and Easter cupcakes on sale.

And so far their combined efforts has raised over £850.

The club was raising money to put back into the running of the junior cricket, as well as supporting the MS society with a quarter of all money raised going to the charity.

Adam added: “We thought it would be a good opportunity to raise some funds for our junior cricket section and that it would also benefit a very worthy charity.”

“One of our players mum’s suffers from MS. The family has always supported the club and we thought it would be nice to be able to give something back.”

Around 100,000 people in the UK have MS. The MS Society invests millions in research and help for sufferers through information, support and campaigning.

The event was sponsored by local businesses Sterling Machining and The Angel Inn in Clowne, and the club thanked them for their support.
