A dragon for Walkeringham

A FIERY new friend arrived at Walkeringham Primary School after a local artist carved them a new creature.

The Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust Education Team, based at Idle Valley Nature Reserve, North Road in Retford, were asked by Walkeringham Primary School to enhance the dedicated wildlife area.

Together with additional funding from the Trent Vale project, local woodcraft artist Dan Sly was commissioned to carve a dragon’s head to create a feature within the wildlife area.

Headteacher Adrienne Allcock said: “We are really lucky to receive this brilliantly carved head of a dragon from Dan as part of our wildlife garden refurbishment.”

“The children’s’ reactions said it all as the dragon was unveiled - ‘awesome’, ‘amazing’, ‘wow’.”

She continued: “Our pupils had many questions to ask and then Dan helped them to make a body for the dragon.”

Mrs Allock added: “We would like to thank all the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust volunteers who came along for their help in improving our wildlife area - it’s made a real difference and has really captured the children’s’ interest.”

Dan Sly’s artwork will be on display at the Christmas Fayre this weekend on Saturday 10th December, from 11am till 2pm at Idle Valley, North Road, Retford.
