A very special walk

Rose Taylor and 16-year-old daughter Samantha were joined by friends as they made the trek in the rain from Carlton’s Co-op to Worksop Town Hall to raise money for the Stroke Association.

Generous folk donated £60 in total on the day - helping to boost their overall donation of £200 to the charity.

Rose said it was a long but worthwhile day which raised money for a great cause.

“It was very difficult and tiring but we all enjoyed it and it was great to have so much support from people along the way,” she said.

“We have had one lady who saw us walking with our buckets and stopped her car to give us some money because her dad had had a stroke.”

Rose, 54, said her mother died from a severe stroke this year - prompting daughter Samantha to organise the charity walk.

“Samantha was with me when we found my mother in her bungalow in February. The reason we went over was that she hadn’t phoned as she would do several times a day,” she said.

“Unfortunately she died in hospital 13 days laer. It just shows how important it is keep in touch with your family as we wouldn’t have known what had happened.”

Rose also suffered a stroke four years ago and said her daughters Samantha and Alison did a great job in looking after her.

“It really wasn’t easy for them to look after me when they were younger and it created a lot of extra pressure,” she said. “The Stroke Club in Carlton have been extremely supportive and I am very grateful to everyone who supported us on the day.”
