A walk around the world via Worksop

A GLOBE-TROTTING adventurer has kicked off his walking trek around the world - and made a stop off in Worksop to say hello.

Mihai Tufa is a plucky 26-year-old photographer from Vaslui in Romania.

Last week, he began his seven-year mission to walk around the world for charity. He set off from Harrogate, and this week, dropped by the Worksop Guardian offices to tell us about his ambitious challenge ‘The World Photo Tour’ - to walk around the planet, taking photos and making friends as he goes.

“I see no satisfaction in working in order to pay for food, rent and everything else, to have a rest then only to work some more,” said Mihai. “It’s a meaningless cycle, and I needed some spice in my life.”

“I want to finish this journey, and every piece of time, thought and energy that I have will go into it.”

Mihai went on: “I’ll be taking photos and putting them on my website as I go, together with stories,” he said.

People can log on and read about the beginning and the blisters, the farewells that were hard to endure, and my first days on the road.”

Mihai said he has particularly enjoyed his walk around Worksop.

“It’s quite nice. I especially like the pedestrianised area. I expected to come this way from Doncaster, and I was surprised to find this great piece of history. I’m moving on to Mansfield next as I make my way to the coast before I head to France.”

He added: “I hope to complete my journey back in Harrogate in seven years.”

Mihai has set himself a target of raising an impressive £100,000 for his three chosen charities.

“I want a British, International and Romanian charity, so I have chosen The British Heart Foundation, Water Aid and the Princess Margaret of Romania Trust,” he said. “I hope that people will show their support.”
