A zumba marathon effort aids charity

ZUMBA is a workout that most people can only manage for an hour or so.

But these dance crazy Gainsborough folk took fitness to another level for a marathon three hour charity Zumbathon.

Around 100 people turned out at Trent Valley Academy to raise more than £1,000 for soldiers’ charity Help For Heroes.

“It was a fabulous day and everyone put loads of effort in dressing up in camouflage to show solidarity with our troops,” said Zumba instructor Fay Wallwork, 23.

The event was organised by one of Fay’s class members Pat Fitzgerald whose son is in the army.

Fay, who teaches Zumba at DW Sports Fitness in Marshall’s Yard as well as community classes, said the hall was filled with dancers aged 14 - 70, including some men.

She said: “Zumba is a mixture of different dance styles from around the world.”

“It’s simple, fun and easy to follow so everyone can join in.”

“We would especially like to see more men come along.”

Local DJ Harry Roger joined in - not with the dancing - but playing the all important music medley through his PA system.

Fay said: “It was great to see everyone getting involved for a good cause and the feedback we’ve had is that they enjoyed it too.”
