Accident sparks call for safety review

A man who lives next to a road in Donington which saw a motorist recieve '˜life-changing injuries' in a collision has told how he has previously warned Lincolnshire County Council about the road he believes is dangerous.

The accident, which took place in Bicker Road, on the A52, B1191 junction on Thursday, May 5, saw a 43-year-old local man flown to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, where Lincolnshire Police say he was treated for ‘life-changing injuries’.

The incident involved an Astra van, a Renault van and a Ford Mondeo, with a 21-year-old local man and 31-year-old man from Billingborough, also treated for less serious injuries.

Andy Allcock, 60, of Bicker Road, says he has previously written to the council about the road.

He believes there is a need for LCC to revisit the road and look at reducing the 60mph speed limit, or at least install safety signage .

He said the most recent incident was ‘eerily identical’ to one three years ago.

He said: “I’m going to try to escalate this because I do want something done.

“It’s right outside my house on the A52.

“That junction is not safe either. People coming out of the lane left or right have got to be really quick because of the speed of vehicles.”

Mr Allcock said other 
accidents have happened right outside his home, with vehicles ending up in ditches visible from his kitchen window.

A spokesman for LCC said they were unable to comment on the situation at this time.

He added: “The Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership are still conducting an investigation into the crash and until that is concluded we can’t say what any recommendations will be.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision, who has not already spoken with officers, should call 101, quoting incident number 331 of May 5.
